Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre (QICDRC), a world-class specialised civil and commercial court, were gold sponsors for the 2nd Kuwait Business Law Forum held today in Kuwait. The forum was co-organised by Kuwaiti law firm Al-Yaqout Legal Group, LexisNexis, a leading global provider of legal, regulatory and business information and the Association of Corporate Counsel of Middle East.
QICDRC’s CEO, Mr. Faisal Rashid Al-Sahouti took part in a panel discussion where he reviewed the latest developments in arbitration in the State of Qatar and its role in the legal community. He affirmed that the Qatari Arbitration Law No. 2 of 2017 is compatible with regional and international conventions in the field of international commercial arbitration. Al-Sahouti also encouraged public and private sectors to use this alternative means of settling disputes rather than in domestic courts.
He added that the arbitration law put the State of Qatar on the map of international arbitration, which will contribute to enhance the culture of arbitration significantly in the nation, in addition to attracting prestigious international arbitration centres with a global reputation to establish branches in the state. Al-Sahouti also pointed out that the Qatar International Court is in fact a judicial arm of an international nature, which aims to achieve the state's vision of attracting foreign capital into its territory by providing judicial platform for foreign investors in accordance with international legal standards.
